What is biopsy and its procedure?

A biopsy is the procedure removal of tissue from any part of the body to analyze it for infection. Some may remove a little tissue test with a needle while others may surgically evacuate a suspicious Lump. In specialist may conclude that he or she needs a sample of your tissue/cells to help analyze a disease or recognize a tumor. The removal of tissue/cells for examination is known as a biopsy.

In the event that you have been encountering indications typically connected with growth, and your specialist has found a range of concern, he or she may arrange a biopsy to help decide whether that region is dangerous.

The procedure of Biopsy:

In this procedure a small piece of tissue o cell from your body taken out and send to a lab for a test, if you're experiencing certain symptoms or if your doctor has identified something, you may undergo a biopsy to determine whether you have cancer or some other condition.

Biopsies are performed to determine the presence of cancer cells, establish tumor grading, and provide more information for treatment. Types of biopsy-

  • To diagnose cancer Biopsies are often important. A biopsy is commonly done if you have a lump or swelling of a part of the body where there is no apparent cause. In these situations often the only way to confirm whether the lump is a cancer is to take a biopsy.
  • Inflammation within organs such as the liver or kidney can be seen in a biopsy sample.
  • Sometimes you may already have a condition but a biopsy can help to assess how severe it is. For example, a biopsy may help to find out how severe inflammation is within an organ such as the liver. It may also help in determining the type or stage of cancer.

How do you prepare for a Biopsy?

Each situation is different. Depending on the biopsy type, your doctor might make certain suggestions. The doctor might suggest that you:

  • Have a list of all medications, including herbal supplements and over-the-counter products.
  • Inform your health care provider about any allergies.
  • Inform your health care provider about any current illness.
  • Inform your health care provider if there is potential for pregnancy.

In a needle biopsy, a pin prick will be felt and a sharp pinch.

A biopsy is usually safe, and it is considered a very low-risk procedure. As with any skin perforation, there is a small chance of infection.

How long does it take for a biopsy to heal?
