What is Derma roller and what is its benefit on skin?

Derma Roller:

A derma roller, AKA a skin needling device, features a cylindrical body attached to a long handle. The cylinder is covered in tons of little needles that individually prick the surface of the skin, creating what are known as ‘micro-injuries’. Simply pick up the handle and roll the body of the device over the skin…well, that’s technically how it works. But, there are a lot of other things to take into consideration before getting rollin’.

We’re not asking you to inflict injury on your complexion for no reason — there are so many benefits to this practice. After micro-injuries are created, skin has to work extra hard to repair the ‘broken’ cells, which in turn accelerates the production of collagen and elastin. These key proteins are produced less effectively as we age, resulting in the formation of wrinkles and fine lines.

Many people are curious about what using a derma roller feels like, and despite the fact that many needles are involved, it’s a lot less painful than you’d think. How it works

What Is Blue Light?

Blue light (also referred to as High Energy Visible or HEV light) poses potential skin harm via free radical generation, Dr Williams explains, “as blue light has been shown in studies to induce oxidative stress in live skin”. This can contribute to skin ageing, like exposure to UVA (long known to age our skin prematurely), however – as Dr Williams points out – “blue light has the ability to penetrate deeper into the skin compared with both UVA and UVB light”. Dry skin care in winters

 Winter is here and as temperatures drop around the country, people are seen pulling out thick blankets and quilts, as well as loading their refrigerators with seasonal vegetables and fruits. The cold weather changes the body in numerous ways. It makes your body vulnerable to a number of diseases, viruses and bacteria, as well as a variety of skin and hair problems as well. ·      Switch your hot water shower with lukewarm water and reduce your bath time. Long hot showers strip away natural oils from your skin making it even drier.

·      Follow your cleansing routine with a thicker moisturiser and use serums and/or facial oils.

·       A five-minute background check on facial oils will be a game-changer. Choose oils that provide hydration without clogging pores. Avocado and safflower oils can be a great addition in your routine.

·       Moisturise your body just as you moisturise your face. Moisturising shower gels are a great option and should be followed by a body lotion/body butter depending on how dry your skin gets.

·       Drink a lot of water, and eat well (leafy greens, pomegranate, eggs etc). If you’re not nourishing and hydrating your body from the inside, skincare products won’t be able to help you on their own.

·       Mixing facial oil/moisturiser with your foundation can really help keep your makeup in place without drying your skin out.

Wash with warm water

To clean your hands from germs dr. says to wash hands for at least 20 seconds with soap and water. Making sure to cover palms, backs of hands, fingers, in between fingers, wrists, and ingernails.She said lukewarm water is best rather than hot.“Very hot will eventually dry things out and doesn’t improve efficacy,” she said.

Use moisturizing soap

Always try to use soap that have moisturizer because some soap can strip the skin and cause them to be dry and cracked, she says to wash your hands with soap that’s moisturizing. “For example, soap with a creamy consistency. You should also look out for soaps with ingredients such as glycerin and lanolin. Also, try to avoid soap bars,”.skin care expert and aesthetician, also suggested staying away from bar soaps.

“The binders that hold a bar of soap together naturally have a high pH, which will cause unnecessary dryness. Instead, choose liquid soaps since they are generally less drying to the skin,”.

Apply moisturizer:  


After frequent hand wash, water isn’t sealed into the skin after washing, it can dry out your hand.

“The reason is that water acts like a magnet and it will attract water out from the deepest layers of the skin and evaporate into the dry air. The result is even tighter, drier skin. To prevent this from happening, be sure to immediately apply hand cream afterward. Even a light layer will do,”

Dermatologist  suggests using creams or ointments rather than lotions, which she said have too much water content, and therefore don’t block water from escaping the skin.

She said moisturizers help with skin care because they:

  • Restore the barrier function of the epidermis
  • Provide a protective film
  • Fill in the small crevices between scales
  • Increase the water content of the epidermis
  • Soothe the skin
  • Improve the skin’s appearance and texture

Wear gloves

In addition to applying a moisturizer to damp skin after washing, she said to soak your hands in plain water for 5 minutes, then apply a moisturizer, and wear gloves for 1 to 2 hours.

“This will ensure that the surface moisture gets where it needs to go,” For really chapped hands, she  said to heavily moisturize hands with thick cream and wear cotton gloves overnight.

“Much like a facial sheet mask, the gloves will keep your hands moisturized for 6 to 8 hours allowing the skin on the hands to get some needed TLC,” she said. Wearing gloves on cold, windy days can also keep the wind from further damaging dry skin, added Friedman.

What is Age spot, Its symptoms and treatment

Age spots:

Age spots are flat brown, gray, or black spots on the skin. They usually occur on sun-exposed areas. Age spots are also called liver spots, senile lentigo, solar lentigines, or sun spots.

Causes of age spots

Age spots are the result of an excess production of melanin, or skin pigment. Doctors don’t always know why age spots develop. Skin aging, sun exposure, or other forms of ultraviolet (UV) light exposure, such as tanning beds, are all possible causes.

  • your shoulders

  • your forearms

Symptoms of age spots and treatment:

Age spots range from light brown to black in color. The spots have the same texture as the rest of your skin, and usually appear on sun-exposed areas. They do not cause any pain.

a)      Prescription medications:
Your healthcare provider may prescribe bleaching creams to fade the age spots gradually. These usually contain hydroquinone, with or without retinoids such as tretinoin. Bleaching creams usually take several months to fade age spots.
Bleaching and tretinoin creams make your skin more sensitive to UV damage. You will need to wear sunscreen at all times during treatment and continue to wear sunscreen, even on cloudy days, after fading the spots.
b)      Medical procedures:
There are several medical procedures that can remove or reduce age spots. Each medical procedure carries a risk of side effects and complications. Ask your dermatologist, plastic surgeon, or skin care professional about which treatment is the most appropriate for your skin.
Medical procedures for age spots include:
  • Intense pulsed light treatment, which emits a range of light waves that passes through the skin and targets melanin to destroy or breakup the spots
  • Chemical peels, which remove the outer layer of your skin so new skin can grow in its place
  •  Dermabrasin which smooths off the outer layers of the skin so new skin can grow in its place
  • Cryosurgery, which freezes individual age spots with liquid nitrogen

Preventing age spots:
While you can’t always prevent age spots, there are several ways you can reduce your chances of developing them:
  • Avoid the sun between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., when the sun’s rays are most intense.
  • Wear sunscreen every day. It should have a sun protection factor (SPF) rating of at least 30 and contain both UVA and UVB protection.
  • Apply sunscreen at least 30 minutes before sun exposure. Reapply every two hours, and more often if swimming or perspiring.
  • Wear protective clothing such as hats, pants, and long-sleeved shirts. These help protect your skin from UV rays. For the best protection, wear UV-blocking clothes with an ultraviolet protection factor (UPF) of at least 40.
