Hair care in Monsoon season

In India humid weather in monsoon can cause hair damage as the climate is sticky due to excessive humidity. This increases the probability of dandruff, hair fall, and other problems too. In fact, your hair is in its weakest condition during this time, and so, your hair needs maximum care.

So, follow the below-mentioned tips to keep your hair problems to a minimum this monsoon.

1. Keep Your Hair Dry

One of the useful and straightforward hair care tips is to keep your scalp dry during the monsoon. Remember that rainwater is dirty and acidic (has a pH of about 5.6) which is very bad for your hair. Use a soft microfiber towel that absorbs water rapidly and reduces friction between the hair and the towel, consequently reducing hair fall.

2. Use Coconut Oil

Applying coconut oil on hair for 15 minutes before shampoo helps in preconditioning your hair. A pre-shampoo treatment with coconut oil makes hair greasy and lessens the water your hair soaks up during washing.

3. Have a Proper Diet

Diet plays a significant role in keeping your hair healthy. What you eat decides the quality of your hair. Add protein-rich food like eggs, walnuts, dairy products, and whole grains along with green vegetables to your regular diet as they provide shine to your hair. And berries, nuts, spinach, and sweet potatoes are some of the best food for hair growth.

4.Use a Right Comb

Do not comb your wet hair immediately as it is the weakest then. Choose the right comb (wide-tooth), so it can easily detangle your hair. Make sure the teeth of the comb have enough space in between so that the hair does not break while combing. Also, sharing of combs must be avoided to prevent fungal infections.

5. Neem and Turmeric Paste

To get rid of dandruff (fungal infection) in the monsoon season, the application of turmeric and neem paste is an excellent option. Neem and turmeric, both possess antimicrobial, anti-fungal, antiseptic, antiviral, and anti-inflammatory properties which make them a perfect choice to treat dandruff. Moreover, both are also rich in Vitamin C and antioxidants which make your hair and scalp healthy. It is the best and natural way to get rid of dandruff.

6. Short Hair Helps

One of the simple tips to stop hair breakage during this season is to keep your hair short. This will reduce your hair fall problems by a lot since you won’t be exerting your roots by pulling down on longer hair. Short hair also reduces the hassle of maintaining it.

Use these tips in monsoons to keep your hair healthy, safe, and glossy even during the rains. With proper hair care, you can enjoy the rain even when they are wet. For ore skin care related query visit our KEMPS Skin Clinic, Vaishali Sec-4, Ghaziabad.

How to use Make-up in this Monsoon

1-     Unless you're planning to buy waterproof make-up products, manipulating your current kit to do double duty is a good idea. A drop of Make Up For Ever Aqua Seal turns any make-up product into a waterproof one.

2-   To build a smear-proof base always use a primer. It acts as a natural shield for dust, water and debris and also helps reduce perspiration through the pores, which keeps your makeup in place longer. Super primers that have multiple options to tackle different skin concerns.

3-      Reserve liquid foundations for non-sweaty days. Switch to a powder-based formulation when it's hot and wet outside. The second you apply the combination of setting powder and foundation on your skin, it dissolves giving you light flawless coverage. Bonus: It gives an instant cooling sensation too. But if you still lean towards liquid foundation then opt for a silicone-based formula. It creates a barrier between the skin and the havoc-creators like humidity and heat.

4-      The best bet for your lips are matte tints. No gloss, bypass lipsticks and head straight to ultra-matte, dry-finish lip liquids.

5-      Dry, powdery eye shadow formulas will flee the quickest. There are two ways you can make them budge-proof—mix with an aqua seal or go for eye tints that dry instantly.

6-      When it's about lining and accentuating the eyes, waterproof picks are a no-brainer. But these formulations have chemicals that dry the lashes and sensitive skin on the eyelids. To maintain the resilience of your lashes first coat them with a volumising or lengthening mascara. Build it up by topping with waterproof mascara. When it comes to liners, ensure you hydrate your lids before applying the ink. For a flawless matte finish, go for a felt-pen liner verses a pencil that's cream-based. It dries quickly and stays put

7-      Contrary to creamy formulations for the lips, eyes or face—it's a big yes for cheeks! Cream-based cheek tints glide on the skin like velvet and get absorbed giving your cheeks a sense of natural flush.

8-      Seal your look with a make-up setting spray. Keeping a check on temperatures, it features patented Temperature Control Technology that lowers the temperature of the make-up keeping foundation, eye shadow, blush, and concealer in place.

Food that helps in Hair Growth

We cut harmful chemicals out of our hair care products, get regular trims, and regularly stimulate our scalp, yet sometimes it feels like our strands have been stuck at the same length for years. our bodies require a diet high in plant-based foods, fiber, antioxidants, and protein for optimal hair growth.

To determine the best foods for hair growth and hair health, it's helpful to know which vitamins and nutrients are important for the hair growth process. For example, consuming foods high in vitamin C, E, D, biotin, and zinc all play a role in hair growth.

Here are five foods that help hair growth

Berries: Berries are rich in vitamins and compounds that are beneficial for hair growth. Vitamin C acts as a potent antioxidant that protects the hair follicles from damage and free radicals. It also acts as a protein (collagen) that prevents hair from becoming brittle.

Nuts: Almonds, cashew nuts, and walnuts should be your go-to snacks if you want to add improve the length and quality of your mane. All these have Biotin or vitamin B7 that helps in making hair grow longer and thicker. Snacking on nuts is one of the healthiest habits. Not just hair health, nuts reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases and inflammation in the body. An ounce of nuts provides an impressive 27% of daily vitamin E needs.

Chia and Flax Seeds: Both these seeds will add bulk to your smoothies. You could munch on these as is if smoothies are not your cup of tea. They are supremely beneficial if long, healthy and shiny hair in monsoon. They are low in calories and can be easily added to your diet. Even sunflower seeds are an excellent choice.

Spinach: Think twice before you turn away that bowl of greens, specifically spinach. Loaded with vitamin A, C, iron, and folate, spinach is at the top of the pyramid of foods that promote hair growth. In many cases, iron deficiency leads to hair loss. Having spinach and greens ensures that the protein and iron demands are met.

Sweet Potatoes: Sweet potatoes are abundant in beta-carotene. It gets converted to Vitamin A in the body, and this boosts hair health. A medium-sized sweet potato has enough beta-carotene to provide more than four times the daily Vitamin A requirement. Vitamin A produces Sebum which maintains hair health.

Simple Skincare Tips For The Rainy Season

Although monsoon will offer some much-needed respite from the scorching heat, the rains can cause damage to your skin and hair. Rain brings down the pollutants and floating toxins from the air and when this dirt comes in contact with the skin, it can cause rashes and allergies. Due to increased humidity during monsoons, your skin may also lose the ability to retain moisture and turn  eczematic. So, it is important that you follow a proper skincare routine to make the most of this rainy season.

Wash your face daily: The pores of your skin tend to get clogged with dirt and pollutants during monsoon causing the outbreak of pimples and rashes. Therefore, it is imperative to wash your face two to three times a day to avert these eruptions. You can also use a toner in case you have dry skin to keep the pores clean.

Use moisturizer: Though using a moisturizer is almost always associated with winter, it is equally important to use it during monsoon especially during the nights. Night is the time when the skin tries to repair itself on its own, therefore applying moisturizer helps in averting the wrinkles and maintains the glow of the skin.

Exfoliation of the skin: Monsoon is the time when your skin requires the most pampering, therefore, an exfoliation at least once in every week will help you to keep the dead cells away, consequently helping you to keep your skin glowing and soft.

Apply sunscreen: Similar to a moisturizer, a sunscreen is a product whose benefits are strictly associated with summer. But that is not rather should not be the case. During monsoon, even though the rays of the sun may not seem harsh, it can as well damage your skin; therefore applying a sunscreen should be something you must not miss.

Eat green vegetables: Your skin reflects not only the benefits of the cosmetic products that you apply on it, but also what you eat. Eating oily and junk products show their mark on the skin sooner than later, therefore the trick is to stay away from them and indulge in green vegetables. Your skin will inevitably show the benefits soon.

Eat fruits: The benefits of eating green vegetables and fruits go hand in hand. Rich in antioxidants, fruits help in maintaining the luster of your skin.

Drink lots of water: Water has plenty of advantages and it takes care of the skin, health as well as hair. Drinking plenty of water during monsoon takes care of the skin and keeps the glow.

What is Derma roller and what is its benefit on skin?

Derma Roller:

A derma roller, AKA a skin needling device, features a cylindrical body attached to a long handle. The cylinder is covered in tons of little needles that individually prick the surface of the skin, creating what are known as ‘micro-injuries’. Simply pick up the handle and roll the body of the device over the skin…well, that’s technically how it works. But, there are a lot of other things to take into consideration before getting rollin’.

We’re not asking you to inflict injury on your complexion for no reason — there are so many benefits to this practice. After micro-injuries are created, skin has to work extra hard to repair the ‘broken’ cells, which in turn accelerates the production of collagen and elastin. These key proteins are produced less effectively as we age, resulting in the formation of wrinkles and fine lines.

Many people are curious about what using a derma roller feels like, and despite the fact that many needles are involved, it’s a lot less painful than you’d think. The thin, short nature of the needles means you’ll barely feel it at all. You may experience slight discomfort or redness after using your derma roller, but at worst, it’ll feel like a mild sunburn.

How it works

When the dermaroller is rolled over the skin, the small, fine needles on the roller puncture the skin. The holes that the needles create in the skin are tiny and considered to be superficial. For this reason, the treatment is not seen as invasive. When the skin is punctured, this creates a controlled skin injury. It does not cause actual damage to the outer layer of skin. The needles help to break down any scar tissue.

Benefit

1. REDUCES THE APPEARANCE OF LINES AND WRINKLES

No one wants to look older than they are. But premature aging that presents as fine lines and wrinkles does just that. The tiny injuries from a microneedling session boost collagen and elastin production to fight lines and wrinkles.

Collagen and elastin are compounds in your skin that add structure and strength, lending a youthful quality. The wound-healing mechanisms also stimulate your body to produce new skin cells, making fine lines, crow’s feet, and forehead wrinkles less apparent.

2. SCAR TREATMENT

Because microneedling stimulates collagen and elastin production, it’s also super effective in addressing acne and other scars on your skin. The only type of scar not possible to treat is keloid, or raised, scars.

3. SUN DAMAGE

Microneedling is effective in reducing the appearance of sun damage, particularly hyperpigmentation and age spots. If you have a blotchy, brownish complexion, which is probably a result of too many days of sunning, microneedling and its ability to stimulate new collagen and skin cells can reinvigorate your look and even out your tone.

4. ANTI-AGING

Aging doesn’t just show up as wrinkles and discoloration. As you get older, your skin loses its elasticity, so it appears lax. Aging skin may also look dull and lack a lustrous glow. Microneedling can change this.

The buildup of collagen that occurs in response to the tiny wounds can improve skin structure to fight sagging. Plus, just 24 hours following a session, you experience a radiant, fresh glow.

5. SHRINKS PORES

Despite the fact that microneedling involves punching holes in your skin, it doesn’t increase the size of your pores. In fact, it helps your pores appear much smaller. When the collagen around your pores is stimulated, the area around each pore plumps, making the pore itself almost disappear.

Microneedling’s effects are comparable to laser and chemical peel treatments but without the long downtime. You can enjoy a glowing complexion 24-72 hours after microneedling, but with laser resurfacing, your recovery may take three to 10 days. Your complexion needs 14-21 days to bounce back after a medium or intensive peel.

What Is Blue Light?

Blue light (also referred to as High Energy Visible or HEV light) poses potential skin harm via free radical generation, Dr Williams explains, “as blue light has been shown in studies to induce oxidative stress in live skin”. This can contribute to skin ageing, like exposure to UVA (long known to age our skin prematurely), however – as Dr Williams points out – “blue light has the ability to penetrate deeper into the skin compared with both UVA and UVB light”. In fact, she notes, “blue light can penetrate all the way to our dermis, where our collagen and elastin live”. Read: loss of firmness and an increase in visible lines as a result.

How Blue Light Impacts Skin?

“We are now seeing increasing data on the potential long-term harms of visible light, and in particular blue light, on our skin,” according to dermatologist .It comes as we’re increasingly attached to our digital devices, swiftly being labelled the silent agers of our generation.

By a famous magazine the sources says that a person check  their phones an average of 200 times a day, and a 2021 report finding most people, on average, spend three hours and 30 minutes on our phones a day, with the top 20 per cent of smartphone users having daily screen time in excess of five and a half hours, we’re getting significantly more blue light exposure than we used to from the sun alone.

Emerging research reveals that blue light can cause oxidative damage, which may accelerate cellular aging (Source: Blue Light Induces Mitochondrial DNA damage & free radical production in epithelial cells). Blue light exposure also creates free radicals while decreasing antioxidants  in skin. Blue light can increase inflammation and slow skin barrier recovery .

How to protect your skin from blue light damage:

Clearly one needs to take an indoor and outdoor approach given that both sunlight and our digital devices emit blue light.

Before you tweak your skincare regime (which we'll get on to), address your tech and cover your phones and computers with a blue light shield. It’s a cheap fix and eliminates the need to worry about skincare or sunglasses when using your phone or tablet. Some smartphones have a setting that disables blue light in favour of yellow light (often called 'night mode' or 'nightshift'), which makes it easier on your eyes and on your skin. If your phone has this feature, use it all the time as a great anti-ageing and eye-saving method.
